## Notes
[Fluent Forever](https://fluent-forever.com/index.html) is a book that I found from a review on YouTube. The YouTuber describes his initial hesitance in reading the book but was gradually impressed by the methodology described by the author, [[Gabriel Wyner]].
## Memory
The first chapter dives into studies on memory and how to improve it.
### [[Spaced Repetition]]
The author describes an approach to becoming fluent faster by using *Spaced Repetition (SR)*.
### Learning the Sounds
The sounds of a language are its neural building blocks. The author makes a case for how the spoken language and written language can diverge. While the written language stays relatively static, the spoken language changes much more quickly. Learning the written language first can create some incorrect pronunciation habits, and will setback speaking. By focusing on saying the right sounds, the brain can also identify those same sounds from native speakers.
