## Anatomy ### Origin The Gastrocnemius Muscle has two origins/heads in the [[Femur]], which is in the thigh ### Insertion The gastrocnemius from each of the heads come together into its own tendon. That tendon then fuses with the [[Soleus Tendon]] to form the upper part of the [[Achilles Tendon]] and eventually attaches at the [[Calcaneus Bone]] (commonly known as the "heel bone"). ## Function - Flexes the knee - Flexes the ankle ## Fascial Relationships - [[Foot]] - [[Knee]] - [[Hip]] - [[Lumbar Area]] ## Trigger Points - All of them are near the heads of the muscle ![[Gastrocnemius_trigger_points.jpg]] ## References - [Gastrocnemius - Physiopedia](https://www.physio-pedia.com/Gastrocnemius)
